THE RPS Group believes it is well positioned to adapt to a low-carbon economy.
The RPS Group is an international consultancy of 4000 employees worldwide providing advice on the development of natural resources, land and property, the management of the environment and the health and safety of people. Newcastle firm Harper Somers O'Sullivan joined the RPS Group in 2006. Michael O'Sullivan said the link was forged primarily because of the firm's multi-disciplinary approach to consultancy. "Looking ahead, the RPS Group sees the interaction between energy supply and use; environmental management and economic considerations will fundamentally shape the next phase of human development," he said."Reducing greenhouse gas emissions and cutting back on waste is essential to achieving a low-carbon economy and, ultimately, a more sustainable world economy."But there's no magic bullet. It requires the reassessment of almost every aspect of our lives."Mr O'Sullivan said he recognised that climate change was a global event. "The response required to reduce the impacts of climate change is to 'think globally, act locally'. "With its network of offices covering Australia, Canada, Europe, Ireland, the UK, the US, Malaysia and Singapore, RPS Group has a wealth of global expertise."RPS Group is able to respond to the climate change call for action by pooling our global knowledge base to contribute to locally based solutions."That's why the link-up between the RPS Group and Newcastle firm Harper Somers O'Sullivan in 2006 made such good sense." Now RPS Harper Somers O'Sullivan has access to a huge array of knowledge on environmental protection, town and city planning, energy technologies including renewable energy water management, transport and public health, Mr O'Sullivan said."In fact, we have access to almost every major issue associated with combating global warming and achieving sustainability."And we've been putting that knowledge to good use."
