AUSTRALIA Day 2008 will be one for the memory bank for the De Andrade family of Lake Heights, who on Saturday won a $9000 shopping spree from Harvey Norman at Warrawong.
Hundreds of hopeful entrants who had slipped entry forms from the Mercury into the box at Harvey Norman since December 22 were on hand for the draw at midday. But it was Natasha and Nelson De Andrade whose names were called to win the $8000 shopping spree prize. For being present at the draw, they picked up a further $1000 to spend as they like in the store. The couple, who have a daughter, Olivia, 5, will use the money to buy appliances for their home, which they are renovating."We were shocked," Mrs De Andrade said."We've never won anything in our lives."We thought we'd just go down and check out the draw and we're so glad we did."A regular Mercury reader, Mr De Andrade cut out the entry coupon for each day's paper since the competition began last month.Mrs De Andrade said they had put about 50 entries in by draw time."We are in the middle of renovations so we'll be looking at getting appliances, a television, lounge, everything," she said."It's a godsend - it's going to help so much."The Mercury and Harvey Norman joined forces to run the competition. Up to $13,000 was up for grabs had a Harvey Norman invoice been attached to the winning coupon.
